7 rivers

she put the world in a cage,
dancing around like the madman she’s known to be
he came in the night- saying it’s either him or me!!
she cries for seven days,
she came outside and said “it’s him….”
because, love, you never ask women to choose,
because, love, when you do, they never choose you
you always lose
and my sister, she went to find the river,
cruel forest winds came to her in a shiver,
she knew she had to go,
and the river knew, yes, the river knew
and said, “I have seen girls like you”,
and she whispered, “yes, i have seen rivers like you”,
and when the river gave her the light,
my sister lost all sight
she backed away, saying it was too bright,
but the river begged of her to come back to the banks-
“no, i want to know you, crawl back into the light…”
she fell upon the forest floor,
put her hands to the warmth,
did what the river said
water filled her head
“you have become me, girl, and you are a sunbeam.”
And every morning,
my sister is the first ray to meet the river,
she says, “yes, I have seen rivers like you…”
